Summer Festivals and Water Safety

Events such as music festivals can be some of what makes summer so exciting! With the sun out and warmer weather here, it’s important to stay safe when participating in summer activities.

Here are some tips to remember if you’re at a festival or party:

  • Plan for a safe ride home
  • Stay with your group of friends, keep an eye out for each other and leave the event together
  • Keep hydrated by drinking water and try to stay in a shaded area
  • If you choose to drink, don’t mix alcohol with other drugs
  • Get your own drinks; don’t accept anything from someone who you don’t know
  • Check your cell phone is charged on a daily basis
  • If you feel unsafe or not well, call for security or police

Heading to the beach is a great way to spend your summer vacation. Whether spending the day or staying the week, here are a few things to remember:

  • Be aware of water conditions; look for signs indicating poor water conditions
  • If you choose to drink; don’t operate water vehicles like boats or jet ski
  • Always take a buddy with you while in the water; Never swim alone
  • Wear protective gear like a life jacket while on a boat or jet ski
  • If anyone is in danger, call for help right away
  • Don’t dive in shallow or unknown waters; there may be hazards
  • Know your swim abilities; even strong swimmers can be overpowered by strong currents
